The 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison is one of the wildest models in the mid-size truck segment. The new model will get a couple of upgrades. This off-road variant is currently causing huge interests, especially in the United States. Bison is the high-performance variant of the already capable ZR2 version. This pickup will go on sale next January.
We can expect further mechanical updates and new truck will be more functional. ZR2 Bison will represent a complete off-roading package. The pickup truck will offer powerful V6 gasoline and smaller turbodiesel engines. This model will look to rival Ford Ranger Raptor and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Exterior
Chevrolet will use plenty of Boron steel, especially on the bumpers and skid plates. The front bumper comes with an integrated winch for better towing capacity. The rear bumper offers a more traditional hook. The 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also offers larger fender flares. The 17-inch wheel is intact and is wrapped in 31-inch tires.
The design looks cleaner but the pickup still looks imposing and aggressive. The front fascia looks really mean and grille now sports prominent black horizontal bars. Chevrolet’s lettering sits in the middle of the grille, which means the bowtie logo is gone. Similar styling cue that Ford is currently deploying with its Raptor models.
Interior Updates and Changes
The interior will look like the current ZR2 model. We can expect a slight difference and small upgrades from the inside. The 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 will get an updated MyLink infotainment system. An 8-inch touchscreen remains a standard option. The infotainment system supports the latest phone integrations such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cabin looks surprisingly modern for such a rugged off-road monster.
Design is subtle and Chevrolet is offering premium optional features. That includes a wireless phone charger, satellite navigation, and a premium audio system. Comfort is great but if you want leather seats, you must check the list of optional amenities. The steering wheel is looking very sporty and it will hold more buttons than the previous unit.
2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison Powertrain
No surprises under the hood. The 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison comes with the same two engine choices. The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 gasoline unit that produces 305 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Optionally, a smaller 2.8-liter Duramax engine is available. This turbodiesel unit can generate up to 180 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque.
Gasoline engine comes with 8-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the diesel variant adds a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Some mechanical changes will happen. Chevrolet will offer a new suspension and electronic locking differentials are slightly tweaked.
Cost and Production
According to Bowtie automaker, new 2020 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison will arrive in January 2020. There is still no word on pricing. However, Colorado ZR2 costs $40,000. Knowing that Bison variant will surely cost over $50,000. This model will face a very tough competition. The biggest rivals are Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger Raptor. The mid-size pickup truck segment is getting wilder and wilder.
