New 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel will arrive with a 3.0-liter Duramax engine. There were some rumors about delaying but those rumors are false. Chevrolet is not announcing this engine yet, not before it undergoes complete testing. Also, Chevrolet said that the company is waiting for the fuel economy certification to be completed. Besides that, new Silverado 1500 will offer two gasoline engines.
Diesel variant won’t depart from the base model at all. Silverado will ride on the same platform as Suburban and Tahoe models. When it comes to further upgrades, Chevrolet will introduce new exterior colors. The interior will get more standard features and a new pickup truck will be lighter than its predecessor.

For the start, the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel will be lighter than its predecessor. However, don’t expect a significant drop in overall weight. On the other hand, dimensions will stay intact, along with the shape of the truck. Chevrolet is introducing more aluminum materials and the aerodynamics are better than before.
These changes will surely improve the fuel economy rating. Besides that, new exterior colors will be in the offer. When it comes to design, Silverado 1500 comes with a few minor updates. The distinctive appearance will remain and it is surely one of the best-looking models in the segment. The front fascia will get more chrome accents and GM will offer more carbon fiber as well. Silverado will arrive with exceptional optional features. That includes a CarbonPro box and MultiPro tailgate.
Interior Comfort and Tech
The interior will also introduce a couple of minor updates. The 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel comes with an SUV-like cabin and the design is exceptional. Comfort is on a high level and Chevrolet feels that there is no need for the significant changes right now. However, new Silverado 1500 will offer more standard features than its predecessor.
Also, storage bins are larger now. The pickup truck is available in eight trim levels. The infotainment system will get an update and the 7.0-inch touchscreen will remain. Range-topping trims are offering a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen and leather upholstery as standard.
2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel Powertrain Specs and Towing Capacity
Silverado’s new diesel engine was a subject of some huge rumors. According to the same rumors, the 3.0-liter Duramax engine was very uncertain. However, Chevrolet said that more information will become available after the final testing. Also, Chevy is waiting for the fuel economy certification to be completed.
That means the 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 Diesel will surely become available. It will be mated to the 10-speed automatic transmission, just like in the Sierra model. A 3.0-liter diesel engine will produce 282 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 28 mpg on the highway and towing capacity is 7,800 pounds. However, those figures are not official yet. Besides that, Silverado 1500 will offer the same two gasoline engines as in the previous models.
Price and Release Date
The base gasoline-powered Silverado 1500 model starts at $31,000. The 2020 Chevy Silverado Diesel will start at 36,000. Upper trims will cost up to $60,000. The light-duty pickup truck is currently produced in Indiana and Michigan. The new model should arrive this summer.
