Chevrolet is updating its Colorado truck in many ways. Each trim level will get unique upgrades and will host a new front-end design. The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will get the most updates. That includes numerous changes on the front fascia, such as broader grille or updated headlights.
Moreover, new exterior paint is available, and rear-end will also host a couple of refreshments. Unfortunately, interior details are not available yet. As for the performances, Colorado ZR2 should remain. If you are looking for something more aggressive, ZR2 Bison variant is also available.
2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Exterior Look
Chevrolet will provide numerous trim levels to each trim level. The goal is to visually differentiate the trim levels by giving each version a unique look. The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will get the most upgrades among the trims. For a start, this pickup comes with a taller and wider grille. The same grille is split in half by new inserts. The bowtie is moved next to the left headlight.
As most of the manufacturers are doing, Chevy will also offer large lettering upfront. Chevrolet said the LT and WT trim levels will get gold bowtie emblems. On top of that, Z71 and ZR2 will get a black badge instead. Furthermore, tailgate will also wear the name “CHEVROLET,” regardless of trim level. And like on the Z71, Colorado ZR2 will also feature a Sand Dune Metallic exterior color.
Interior details are not available at the moment. However, the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 shouldn’t get significant upgrades. Whatsoever, we don’t expect upgrades at all. Only the regular update of the high-tech amenities is realistic. That includes improved displays, a new infotainment system, and possibly new driver-assistance aids. The rest of the cabin will largely remain.
That isn’t a bad thing as it may sound. ZR2 comes with a high level of comfort, and it is a well-equipped truck. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation are all in the offer. Moreover, ZR2 comes with a wireless phone charger, optional leather upholstery, and a premium audio system.
2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Powertrain Specs
The upcoming 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will continue to offer impressive off-road ability. However, we won’t see mechanical changes at all. That means the 2021 model is all about exterior changes and refreshments. Whatsoever, we don’t see that much room for improvements. The Colorado ZR2 pickup truck comes with the Multimatic shocks, electric locking differentials, and a two-inch suspension. On top of that, both rear and front differentials are available.
Moreover, the two-speed transfer case is also in the offer. As for the powertrain, a 3.6-liter V6 is available once again. This unit generates 305 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, V6 offers direct fuel injection and variable valve timing systems. A 2.8-liter Duramax diesel is available on some markets, as well. The turbodiesel engine is producing 180 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque.
Price and Release Date
We don’t know what effect will the latest upgrades have on pricing. New 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will most likely get a small jump in price. The current model starts at $45,000. At this cost, ZR2 slots between the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Ford F-150 Raptor. The sales will begin at some point in 2020, most likely in the last quarter.
