The forthcoming 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV will reportedly arrive in the second half of 2021. This brand-new pickup truck has been teased last week. The all-electric variant will compete with the Ford F-150 EV so the battle between these two models continues on every front. GM confirmed an all-electric pickup in the near future, besides the approaching GMC Hummer EV.
So far, we don’t have much information about the new Silverado EV. However, the new model will surely borrow a lot of things from the Hummer EV and it will depart from its gasoline-powered sibling. Here’s everything you need to know about the new 2022 Silverado EV.
2022 Silverado EV Will Look More Futuristic
The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV was shown at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference. GM used this conference to present its future all-electric vehicles that will go on sale in the next five years. At one point, the background image showed a silhouette of what we believe is the all-new Silverado EV. The all-electric pickup will be a full-size model. Moreover, it will feature a polygonal body setup and its sales will start one year from now.
The teaser image shows a truck with small sculpting and it clearly departs from the original Silverado 1500 pickup. GM did a day that the future Silverado Electric won’t look exactly like its gasoline-powered brother. The bowtie emblem is easy to recognize as well but it seems like the Silverado EV will wear the same styling as the GMC Hummer EV.
As we said, most of the things are borrowed from the arriving Hummer EV truck. That means the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV will use the same BT1 architecture. The all-electric Silverado will also deploy a new Ultium battery that provides up to 400 miles of range on a single charge. According to some experts, this truck will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around three seconds, which is amazing. However, this is just a rumor and nothing is official yet. Chevy will offer numerous trim levels.
The lower-grade trims will provide around 250 miles of driving range. The range-topping trim will offer up to 400 miles. As for the GMC Hummer EV, this model will generate 1,000 horsepower and it will be an off-road capable model. On the other hand, Silverado will surely get smaller performance figures and we don’t know if Chevy is willing to focus on the off-road duties.
2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV Launch Date
The upcoming 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV will hit the dealerships later in 2021 or early in 2022. This all-electric truck is still not confirmed. However, Chevy will release more details in the next few months. The goal is to rival the Ford F-150 EV that will also go on sale in the same period.
The price is not available but we expect a lot of similarities between Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV. Silverado will probably cost less than the new Hummer but this is just a wild guess.
