The forthcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado HD will introduce further improvements. One of the most significant upgrades is a new six-function tailgate called the MultiFlex. As for the rest of the heavy-duty lineup, things are not official yet. However, the latest spy photos of the Silverado 1500 pickup are giving us an idea of how the Silverado HD could look like.
For a start, Chevrolet will introduce various exterior and interior refreshments. However, it seems like the engine lineup will be a carryover. This truck will hit the dealerships later in 2021 and here’s everything you need to know.
2022 Silverado HD Redesign
As we said, spy shots of the 2022 Silverado 1500 pickup are available. Thanks to that, it is easier to determine the looks of the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD. The new truck will add a couple of visual improvements for sure. The front fascia could suffer radical changes, which means a new grille is in the works. Moreover, the headlights will be reshaped and will be slimmer than before.
The goal is to deliver a more modern appearance so the rear section could get similar treatment as well. We are talking about a two-tiered lighting system that is equipped with standard LED technology. Moreover, the new heavy-duty truck will provide more chrome accents and possibly new exterior colors. However, the most significant upgrade is the new MultiFlex tailgate.
The spied prototype did reveal something interesting and it is a new tailgate. The upcoming 2022 Chevy Silverado HD will introduce a new MultiFlex tailgate. The same tailgate is already available on models such as GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado 1500. Now, the heavy-duty lineup will offer the same MultiPro tailgate but it will be named MultiFlex.
Mechanically, there will be no difference between Sierra’s and Silverado’s tailgates. This function will be standard on the range-topping trim levels such as High Country. That means the base trim level will offer this tailgate as an option. According to numerous experts, it is the best tailgate in the segment and it is both functional and practical.
Specs, Towing Capacity
Both Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD models will offer the same engines as before. That means the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD is a carryover in terms of available powertrain options. A 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine is standard and it delivers 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. This unit is available with a six-speed automatic transmission. Optionally, you can get a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax engine. It is a turbodiesel powertrain that generates 445 hp and up to 910 lb-ft of torque.
Unlike the gasoline engine, diesel is mated to an Allison 10-speed automatic gearbox. You can choose between standard rear-wheel-drive and optional all-wheel-drive systems. Moreover, a dual-rear-wheel setup is available as well. The gasoline-powered Silverado tows up to 17,400 pounds while the diesel variant can tow up to 36,000 pounds. The strongest combination is Silverado 3500HD regular cab model with dual-rear-wheel configuration and diesel engine.
2022 Chevy Silverado HD Release Date and Price
The base 2022 Chevy Silverado HD will now cost $37,000. On the other hand, the range-topping trim level will start at around $64,000. It is a small jump in price, but this is just a prediction at the moment. Chevrolet still didn’t release official details. However, we know that the Silverado HD will hit the markets in the second half of 2021.
