Latest rumors are suggesting the comeback of the Dakota pickup. The 2020 Dodge Dakota is about to make a return and it is based on the new Jeep Wrangler. However, Dakota pickup will hit the markets under the RAM’s badge. In the future, we could see Ram Dakota and it already sounds weird.
However, the new model will look very upscale and modern. The mid-size pickup will wear an attractive design and interior will be beautiful. Some parts will be taken from the Wrangler’s SUV. That includes numerous features and possibly the engine as well. Whatsoever, both models are produced in the same Ohio plant.
2020 Dodge Dakota Design
New Dakota is based on the Jeep Wrangler. However, we still don’t know if the new pickup will keep its dimensions and proportions. Moreover, the 2020 Dodge Dakota could also wear a similar design language as its predecessor. The mid-size pickup will arrive under the RAM’s badge this time. For that reason, the front part will look similar to the Ram 1500 model.
Grille and large Ram’s lettering will be the highlight of the front fascia. However, this is the part where the Wrangler kicks in with its unique headlights. Also, Dakota will share the underpinnings with the Wrangler SUV. We can expect upscale 18-inch wheels as standard and 20-inch rims as an option. Generally, Dakota won’t look unique but it will be the best Dakota so far.
Cabin Will Look Stylish
Interior design is still mysterious. Of course, the goal is to deliver an upscale cabin with modern design and modern amenities. New 2020 Dodge Dakota will surely borrow some cues from the Jeep’s Wrangler model. On the other hand, RAM will play a huge part in the interior design, no doubt about it. For that reason, Dakota will be everything but unique.
However, Dakota pickup will get the most premium cabin in its history. We expect a stylish look with interesting shapes and designs. Thanks to the numerous trim levels, this mid-size pickup will surely reach the level of luxury. Leather seats will be optional on the base model.
At least one thing is certain. A 3.6-liter V6 is a no-brainer when it comes to Dakota’s powertrain. It’s all because of Jeep’s strategy to deploy this engine everywhere, including the Wrangler SUV. The 2020 Dodge Dakota will produce 285 horsepower and it will deliver good fuel economy rating.
Some markets will get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that generates 300 HP thanks to the turbocharger. Both engines will offer the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. The four-wheel-drive configuration will be optional. Another possibility is a diesel powertrain that will become available before 2022. According to some reports, Dakota will get a turbodiesel engine that will offer both 6-speed manual and automatic transmission.
