We are delivering the latest details on the 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup. It is a light-duty truck that will join models such as Ford F-150 and Ford Ranger. These two models are proof that Ford knows how to make and sell pickup trucks. Maverick is an old nameplate, but it will arrive as a brand-new pickup truck.
The arriving model will be the smallest brand’s pickup, smaller than the mid-size Ranger. Whatsoever, Maverick could share its underpinnings with one of Ford’s unibody crossovers. While some details are not available yet, new Maverick will surely debut at some point next year. Here’s everything we know about Blue Oval’s newest model.
2022 Ford Maverick Design, Architecture
The upcoming 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup will become the brand’s smallest pickup truck. It will slot below the mid-size Ranger. Unlike Ranger, Maverick will arrive with a unibody structure. Similar architecture underpins Honda Ridgeline.
However, Ford will most likely deploy the same platform that underpins one of the company’s small crossovers. Of course, we are talking about unibody architecture. While we don’t know which platform will be in the offer, Maverick will share plenty of mechanics with new Escape and Bronco Sport models.
Why Maverick Name?
First reports are strongly suggesting the “Maverick” name. However, the 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup could get a new name. Still, Maverick is the most likely outcome. The latest leaked details are showing a large “MAVERICK” stamp on the truck’s tailgate.
Whatsoever, new pictures are showing detailed tailgate that wears the same wordmark. The other possibilities are “Courier” and “Ranchero”. Interestingly, some rumors are writing about Maverick as a new member of the Bronco family. For that reason, don’t be surprised if Maverick becomes Ford Bronco Pickup Truck.
2022 Ford Maverick Engine Specs
If the new 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup arrives with the modular front-wheel-drive platform, then engine options are already familiar. Ford won’t develop a new engine as it is too expensive. Instead, Blue Oval manufacturer will opt for familiar powerplants taken from Escape and Bronco Sport. The small truck will most likely deploy at least two turbocharged engine options. A 1.5-liter three-cylinder and a larger and optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.
The latest rumors are even predicting a turbocharged 2.3-liter with 280 hp, taken from Focus ST variant. If Ford opts for the same front-wheel-drive architecture that underpins Ford Transit Connect, a 2.0-liter with 162 horses is certain to happen. Moreover, a 1.5-liter will provide around 180 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission is a must, although a six-speed manual gearbox could become available as well. The entry-level models will offer a standard front-wheel-drive setup, while the all-wheel-drive system will be optional.
Price and Release Date
The brand-new 2022 Ford Maverick Pickup will hit the dealerships outside of the US. That means Maverick will be sold in Brazil and Mexico.
However, like Bronco Sport, an AWD Maverick will surely reach the American shores in the near future as well. Price is still a mystery, but Maverick will represent an affordable sub-Ranger option, so anything above $25,000 will surprise us.
