Spied last year, the next-gen Ranger is on the way. The 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid will also arrive and it is perhaps the highlight of the new generation. The mid-size pickup truck will make a turning point for Blue Oval outside of the US. As you know, Ranger is extremely popular in Australia.

Now, after the F-150 pickup, Ranger will also get its first hybrid powerplant. It will be a plug-in hybrid version built around the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Moreover, Ford Everest, which is also available in Australia will get a similar hybrid setup. A couple of leaked details about the interior and exterior are available too. Overall, Ranger is ready for the bigger stage, there is no question about it.

The 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid pickup has been photographed last year. These photos are proving that the new-gen Ranger is coming to the markets. However, the customers will have to wait for another whole year. The mid-size pickup truck will gain various cosmetic updates. For a start, the front fascia hosts two larger chrome bars and the grille is rectangular. It is a recognizable cue you can find on the F-150 models and even Super Duty trucks.

The c-shaped headlights are visible too, wrapping around twin bars. The fog lights are finished in a square shape and the hood is more aggressive than before. The chrome bumper looks impressive and it sports two larger vertical elements. The styling is new and the Ranger’s profile looks blocky. Even the fender flares are boxier. As for the rear part, the tailgate hosts large RANGER lettering and the emblem is moved higher up. Interestingly, but it seems that the rear bumper won’t be changed at all.

Redesigned Cabin

Both Ranger and Everest models will feature similar upgrades. For a start, the 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid will feature a new dashboard and new SYNC 4 infotainment system. On top of that, the touchscreen has been borrowed from the F-150 hybrid pickup and it is a diagonal 12.8-inch unit.

The tablet-like media center looks very modern and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster could join the offer. This mid-size pickup truck will also host new upholstery, new design cues, and much more. That includes the latest driver-assistance features and other high-tech amenities. A Super Crew Cab with five seats will be in the offer too.

If the reports are correct, the upcoming 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid pickup truck will ride on a new T6 body-on-frame platform. This architecture will accommodate hybrid powertrain and the same platform could underpin the new Ford Everest SUV as well.

Ranger PHEV will deploy a 2.3-liter EcoBoost that is currently available only in the United States. With this engine, a hybrid variant will produce 360 horsepower and around 500 lb-ft of torque. From what we know, Ranger Hybrid will arrive with a Ford’s newest 10-speed automatic transmission. We are still waiting for more official info, particularly info about mpg.
