After the light-duty models, the time has come for the carmakers to introduce the heavy-duty pickup trucks. After the spy shots of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado HD, the 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is also being spotted in public too.
The pickup that was caught on the camera is new Sierra 2500 Denali. That means the premium trim level will once again be in the offer. Besides the Denali trim, the Sierra 2500 HD is clearly getting some significant update. The company’s largest model will get the new front end, which includes updating of the front grille and new headlights. From the inside, Sierra will continue to offer upscale interior design. The diesel engine will remain available, along with the same number of trim levels.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Body Changes
We still don’t know everything about the exterior of the new GMC Sierra 2500 HD. But some changes are visible, even under the heavy camouflage. Just like the other carmakers, GMC also opted to go with the popular approach: Make heavy-duty models to look like the light-duty models. It is a smart piece of business, we saw some amazing light-duty pickup trucks in the past.
Whatsoever, that means the arriving 2500 HD model will be based on the 1500 pickup truck. Of course, Sierra 2500 and 3500 will offer much larger features. The front end is new, the grille is revised and the headlights are brand-new. New wheels are in the offer and the vehicle will get additional aluminum work. The dimensions will remain, just like the design of the rear end.
In a year or two, you won’t be able to separate heavy-duty from the light-duty model. The interior of the all-new 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD really looks like the interior of the Sierra 1500. The strategy is good, no doubt about it.
The layout is also the same, just like the use of more premium materials. The base model is reasonably comfortable with the standard cloth upholstery. The real luxury starts with the iconic Denali model. While we don’t know anything about the new interior, we can expect another subtle approach from the GMC’s designers.
2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Powertrain
The forthcoming 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD won’t get any type of upgrades under the hood. The 6.6-liter V8 Duramax is available once again. The proven V8 powertrain is capable of producing up to 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine is popular for a reason and with those figures, Sierra is a capable competitor to the pickup trucks from the Ford, Chevy, and Ram.
The 2020 Sierra will also offer a 6.0-liter V8 gasoline engine. Total output is rated at 330 horses and 380 lb-ft of torque. The 9-speed automatic transmission will be the standard choice on the gasoline variant. Diesel version comes with the 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Price and Release Date
The price of the arriving heavy-duty pickup truck starts at around $36,000. The new GMC Sierra 2500 HD comes with a slight price increase.
Denali trim will probably keep its existing price in a range between $60,000 and $65,000. The all-new Sierra HD will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2019.
