The upcoming 2020 GMC Sierra HD was caught on a test drive and the spy shots emerged. The photographs are clearly showing numerous body styles and visible exterior changes. Biggest refinement will happen up front and even the Denali trim was caught on cameras. There will be three configurations and numerous trim levels will carry over.
The exterior will depart from the current Silverado 2500 HD model, but the engines will be similar. Two V8 powertrains are in the offer, one diesel, and one gasoline unit. Perhaps the biggest change will be a new 10-speed automatic transmission. However, a 6-speed automatic gearbox will remain and it will come as standard.
2020 GMC Sierra HD exterior will get more aluminum work
The all-new 2020 GMC Sierra HD will borrow some styling cues from the smaller 1500 model. However, most of the features are larger and that includes a bolder chrome grille, 20-inch wheels, and new running boards. Both 2500 HD and 3500 HD will get more aluminum work and chrome trims. The truck will be lighter and the aerodynamics are improved.
With those changes, the fuel economy should be slightly better. CarbonPro box and MultiPro tailgate are available and the headlights will get a LED technology. By looking at the spy shots we can see new fog lights as well. Generally, the heavy-duty segment is getting more and more aggressive and the Sierra HD follows the same path.
2020 GMC Sierra HD interior
Imagine the GMC Sierra 1500 with more room, because that is what the interior will look like. The 2020 GMC Sierra HD will replicate the interior design from its smaller brother. The use of materials is literally the same and the layout is also the same. However, no one didn’t expect such a high level of comfort inside the cabin. If you want luxury only, opt for the upper trims such as Denali.
With Denali trim you can get more upscale materials and features, which includes leather seats and more standard equipment. Just as in the previous years, a regular cab will offer three-seat configuration. Crew cab will arrive with four doors and a room for six persons.
2020 GMC Sierra HD powertrain
The 2020 GMC Sierra HD will borrow the engine from the Silverado 2500 HD model. With that in mind, GMC will offer a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax diesel engine. Moreover, a 6.0-liter V8 gasoline unit is also available. Diesel powertrain will get more horsepower and more torque so the hauling capabilities will be on another level.
On the other hand, a gasoline V8 remains a standard option and it produces 300 HP and 333 lb-ft of torque. Duramax V8 can now produce 465 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque.
Towing capacity and transmission
This engine can tow almost 25,000 pounds. A 6-speed automatic transmission will carry over and the new Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic gearbox will be optional.
2020 GMC Sierra HD price and release date
The forthcoming 2020 GMC Sierra HD will hit the markets later in 2019 and it will cost around $35,000. Upper trim levels will cost more, significantly more. For an instance, Denali models will start at $60,000.
