The reports about the Canyon’s complete redesign in 2021 were obviously false. This pickup truck will get mid-cycle refreshments instead. The upcoming 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is the biggest refreshment, surely. Whatsoever, we can expect the new-gen Canyon in 2022. Before that, the mid-size pickup is ready for minor updates and new AT4 off-road package.

Design-wise, Canyon will mostly remain, and it will receive small cosmetic changes. However, the interior will host numerous technology updates. Still, the cabin’s design remains once again. A hybrid powertrain is a possibility, but General Motors will most likely wait a little more. As for the AT4 package, it will improve the off-road capability and add a higher ride, new suspension, and standard 4WD setup.

Newest spy shots of the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 are showing a couple of minor upgrades. The prototype wears more extensive changes upfront. It seems like the General Motors plans to emulate Canyon with Sierra. It makes sense after the 2020 changes.

A front fascia looks more square, and grille will suffer additional modifications. Still, heavy camouflage on the prototype is not helping at all. Unlike the regular Canyon, the AT4 variant adds more aggressiveness and unique off-road tires. Furthermore, suspension has been modified, and this version offers better traction.

The corners are looking rounder, and the lower opening looks bigger. The rest of the mid-size pickup should largely remain. Canyon continues to ride on its GMT 31XX platform. As you probably heard, new-gen will deploy a VSS-T architecture. GM continues to offer Black-Out exterior trim and the Nightfall Package. On top of that, we can expect new exterior paint.

Cabin is Practical and Modern

The arriving mid-size pickup truck will once again offer practical and modern interior. The all-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 will now obtain a couple of new high-tech amenities. On the other hand, the rest of the cabin will largely remain. That includes both the interior design and its layout. Most modern phone integrations are available, and the infotainment system is updated to its latest version. Canyon AT4 will offer more driver-assistance aids.

Unfortunately, all of the updates will happen on the upper trim levels. That means you can get new features on the base model, but you’’ have to pay additionally for them. Canyon is known for its roomy cabin, and that category is unchanged. Comfort is excellent, and mid-size pickup will gain better safety ratings too. AT4 version is only available in a Double Cab body style. It adds slightly more luxury over the base model, but don’t expect such a significant change.

As for the performances, brand-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 is a carryover. The mid-size pickup truck continues to offer up to three powertrain options. Everything starts with a 2.5-liter gasoline engine. This four-cylinder is standard, and it delivers 200 horses and 190 lb-ft of torque. We recommend an optional 3.6-liter V6. It comes with more power as it can produce 310 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of twists.

Finally, a 2.8-liter diesel is the third engine option. Diesel output cranks out 180 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. Gasoline engines are offering Active Tow System, but diesel comes with better towing capacity. Whatsoever, Canyon Diesel can tow around 8,000 pounds. Basically, no matter which engine you opt for, AT4 will be available as an off-road package. Canyon AT4 will improve the off-road capability without any doubts. GM will provide unique suspension, a higher ride, and standard four-wheel-drive setup.

The forthcoming Canyon pickup will keep its current price. That means you can get this mid-size pickup truck for about $23,000. The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 will hit the markets in the near future, and it will cost slightly below $30,000.
