The upcoming 2021 GMC Canyon is a reliable light-duty mid-size pickup truck. It comes with tradition and great performances. This model is recently redesigned so the 2021 Canyon will get mid-cycle updates. On the other hand, 2022 Canyon will be the new-gen model.
GMC will introduce small visual changes and numerous interior updates. Performance-wise, conventional engines will surely remain. However, the hybrid drivetrain is very certain.
2021 GMC Canyon Redesign
The mid-size pickup truck will continue to ride on its GMT 31XX platform. The new-gen model comes in 2022 and that is when we expect for GMC to introduce new VSS-T architecture. However, the upcoming model will get small exterior modifications. The 2021 GMC Canyon still offers a popular Black Out exterior trim. Moreover, Nightfall Package is available again.
The new model will introduce new exterior colors, two of them. The front fascia comes with larger headlights and a wider grille. In the back, things will stay intact. Canyon will continue to offer two-bed choices and the removable tailgate is optional. Higher trim levels will get additional chrome trims. The rest of the exterior will largely remain.
The cabin will remain practical and modern. The 2021 GMC Canyon will introduce numerous updates in terms of technology. That includes infotainment system, displays, and phone integrations. We could see new safety equipment but that is not confirmed yet. Besides those changes, the interior will continue in the same manner.
Canyon pickup looks stylish from the inside and interior room is very generous. Wider seats are very supportive and comfort is truly great. Legroom is ample in both rows and fine leather upholstery is optional on the base model. The mid-size pickup truck also offers great safety rating and upper trim levels are very premium for the mid-size segment.
2021 GMC Canyon Powertrain and Towing Rate
Under the hood, the 2021 GMC Canyon won’t introduce any changes. Thanks to that, GMC once again offers three powertrain choices. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder is available as standard. This gasoline unit delivers 200 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Optionally, a 3.6-liter V6 is available. With powerful V6, Canyon generates 310 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.
If you want a diesel engine, it is optional. A 2.8-liter engine produces 180 horses and torque is rated at 370 lb-ft. Both optional engines are offering an Active Tow System that is standard. With diesel powertrain, 2021 Canyon will tow almost 8,000 pounds.
Price and Release Date
Numerous reliable reports are suggesting for the price to stay intact. Thanks to that, a new mid-size pickup truck will cost $23,000. The 2021 GMC Canyon will be available in a couple of trim levels. Upper trims are priced at over $30,000.
We are still waiting on the news about the hybrid version. On top of that, Canyon AT4 variant will also arrive later next year. Canyon will go on sale in the second half of 2020. The 2022 Canyon will be the next-gen model that will get a redesign and new platform.
