New 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD will arrive later this year with mid-cycle refreshments. It is a reliable heavy-duty pickup truck and surely one of the best options in the segment. Rumors about 2021 redesign were false and the new Sierra will introduce minor updates. Some improvements will happen as GM plans to update every aspect of the vehicle.
For instance, Sierra will gain cues that are similar to the Chevy Silverado pickup. Moreover, General Motors will update the cabin of its pickup truck lineup. That includes Sierra 3500HD as well. Still, this model will continue to roll on the same platform and there will be no significant changes. The customers can expect more safety aids as well.
2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD Upgrades
As we said, the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD won’t change that much in terms of design. On the other hand, small changes are about to happen. First of all, Sierra’s dimensions, shape and ruggedness will remain intact. Moreover, Sierra looks very stylish for a heavy-duty pickup truck which is great. Some parts are SUV-esque but some other parts will bring Sierra closer to the Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup. The bodywork is now more similar and even the front fascia is slightly different.
The grille seems to be enlarged and the headlights are finished in a different shape. Have in mind that these changes are barely visible, we are not talking about anything significant. Sierra offers a new Corner Step feature that should be optional on the base trim level. Speaking of which, the entry-level model comes with standard 18-inch wheels. Denali trim is the range-topping model that looks more premium and it adds nothing but the luxury.
High Level of Comfort
The cabin of the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD will gain some important updates. The interior will look more upright and more modern. Moreover, Sierra will maintain a high level of comfort. That means GM won’t bother with new upholstery or with improving the level of luxury on the inside. Instead, the manufacturer will focus on technology. Indeed, Sierra 3500HD will gain more chrome accents around the dash. The cabin will remain as practical as before.
However, new high-tech features will improve the interior’s functionality. Even the base trim level will get more standard equipment. On top of that, all trim levels should largely benefit from the latest updates. New driver-assistance features are also available, although, most of these aids will be optional. If this is not good enough for you, Denali trim level is where the real luxury begins.
2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD Powertrain
The upcoming 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD will continue its journey with the same engine lineup as its predecessor. This is a surprise as both Ford and Ram are improving the performances of their heavy-duty trucks. However, Sierra continues with its 6.0-liter gasoline engine with 300 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque.
The same engine is available in different figures and that engine delivers 360 horses and 380 lb-ft of twisting power. Still, the most popular option is a turbodiesel powertrain. A 6.6-liter Duramax is capable of producing 445 horsepower and up to 910 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, Sierra 3500HD can tow up to 24,000 pounds. This heavy-duty model comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Price and Release Date
As for the price, the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD should start at $37,500. That means the price remains, but the range-topping Denali trim will cost over $60,000.
Sierra will go on sale along with the rest of the GM’s heavy-duty lineup, most likely in the last quarter of the year.
