The upcoming 2022 GMC Canyon will hit the markets later in 2021. This pickup truck will arrive with a mid-cycle facelift, including numerous interior and exterior changes. The Canyon is similar to Chevy Colorado, a model that will receive more or less the same type of upgrades. On the other hand, Canyon model needs refreshments, unlike its sibling. New model will gain improved styling and it will introduce a longer list of standard features.
Like the outgoing model, the new one will offer the same trim levels. The most popular version is the off-road AT4 model that looks more robust. Interestingly, each trim level will get the same updates, including additional high-tech amenities. The 2022 Canyon won’t get a significant price increase. Whatsoever, the Canyon could arrive with the same price sticker as the current model.
2022 Canyon Exterior Changes
As we said, a mid-cycle facelift is about to happen. The 2022 GMC Canyon will get not so drastic visual updates. However, styling will be improved, which is very important. Moreover, GM will provide more lightweight materials, mostly aluminum. Thanks to that, we expect slightly better fuel economy ratings. Canyon looks good and handsome, but some exterior parts are looking out of date.
The approaching model will wear more chrome accents, especially up front. The AT4 trim will gain a couple of new sporty cues and more off-road equipment. The rear part will remain intact, but we are hoping to see new exterior paints and new optional wheels.
The interior of the 2022 GMC Canyon will get a couple of interesting updates. This pickup truck is once again offering extended and crew cab configurations. Both versions are full of upright materials and high-tech amenities. GM says that the Canyon pickup will provide more standard and optional features as well. Thanks to that, you can choose between vinyl, cloth, and leather upholstery, for an instance.
New infotainment is also available, but its 8-inch touchscreen remains. Canyon comes with standard Wi-Fi, the latest phone integrations, and much more. Its range-topping Denali trim level is a thing of luxury. Whatsoever, Canyon Denali offers standard features such as a heated steering wheel, unique interior color schemes, and additional wood trims.
Three Engine Options
The all-new 2022 GMC Canyon will ride on the same engine lineup as the current model. Some rumors are still present, regarding the possible hybrid powertrain. However, we think this won’t happen in the next year or two. 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline remains the standard engine choice and it generates 200 horsepower. This engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
3.6-liter V6 gasoline is optional and it delivers 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Optional V6 will offer a better 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, there is a diesel powertrain option. It is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 180 hp and 370 lb-ft of twisting power.
2022 GMC Canyon Price and Release Date
As we said, the price of the new 2022 GMC Canyon will probably remain intact. That means you can get this model for about $24,500. On the other hand, the Denali trim level will cost closer to $40,000. The sales will begin later in 2021, most likely in the last quarter of the year.
