Yes, Hummer is back. This time, under the GMC badge. The upcoming 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup will represent a strong option in the new all-electric pickup truck segment. It is a comeback that caused a huge splash, to be honest. Did you watch the Super Bowl? The full commercial debuted during the biggest sports event and teased the return of Hummer. It featured LeBron James doing what he does, dunking.

In the same commercial, the horses are symbolizing its 1000 horsepower, and GMC opted for moto of “quiet dominance.” According to the manufacturer, this pickup truck will also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in only three seconds. Of course, the goal is to rival Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T. The production will start in late 2021 so you can expect new 2022 Hummer shortly after that.

2022 GMC Hummer EV Exterior

The only glimpse of the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup was the teaser image. Moreover, the commercial is showing a famous six-slat grille witch stylish “HUMMER” lettering. The grille is illuminated, and it perfectly blends with the squared-off LED headlamps. Down below, Hummer sports large vent opening with the “GMC” badge and bold fender flares. We can only assume that the skid plate is hiding somewhere underneath these elements.

The lighting system looks unique and Hummer will also host the lights on the roof. As for the rest of the exterior, we can only guess how the 2022 Hummer could look like once it arrives. Surely, everyone expects stylish GMC cues with some recognizable features. Get ready, because new Hummer will be everything but a traditional truck.

Engine Specs

Hardcore fans of older Hummer versions, sorry, but the V8 engine won’t be in the offer. The forthcoming 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup will be an all-electric model. GMC claims 1000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of axle torque. Crazy, we know, but these figures are misleading, it’s just what the company is quoting. We don’t know exact torque numbers, but we can expect astonishing power, for sure.

GMC also says the Hummer will be able to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only three seconds. That is just crazy, for a race car, not to mention a pickup truck. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for full vehicle specs such as battery capacity, power of motors and driving range. The official debut should happen around May. Lastly, the all-wheel-drive system will be standard whit electric motor on each axle.

2022 GMC Hummer EV vs. 2021 Tesla Cybertruck

It is perhaps too early to compare the new 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup with 2021 Tesla Cybertruck. Performance figures are not available yet. We can say the same thing for Rivian R1T pickup as well. However, we can expect a tough battle in terms of acceleration, horsepower figures and towing capacity.

Besides that, Hummer will surely have an advantage over Cybertruck in terms of design. It’s a crazy world, and many people will find Cybertruck appealing. That’s not the case with us, so we expect for Hummer to dominate in this segment. On the other hand, we think the 2021 Tesla Cybertruck will be a more affordable model as it starts at $40,000.

Price and Release Date

The arriving pickup truck will debut in full this May. However, the sales of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup will start in fall 2021. GMC will build its new model in the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant in Michigan, along with Cadillac Escalade. As for the price, it is hard to predict. Tesla Cybertruck will cost $40,000 and Rivian R1T around $70,000. As for the Hummer EV, the price between $60,000 and $70,000 is very real.
