The upcoming 2022 Hyundai Tarlac is the brand’s new model. It is a body-on-frame pickup truck that will go on sale later next year. Tarlac is not the company’s first pickup truck as the Santa Cruz has already been spied in Europe. However, the new 2022 Santa Cruz will reportedly have a great impact on the Tarlac model and its design.
Unfortunately, we have only seen renderings of a new Tarlac pickup. Named after the province in the Philippines, Tarlac will feature a traditional design with a recognizable Hyundai’s design language. More details will become available in the coming months but here’s what we know about this model so far.
2022 Hyundai Tarlac First Impressions
As we said, a new 2022 Hyundai Tarlac will look very traditional. Its body shape is regular and Hyundai didn’t surprise us at all. It will be a body-on-frame pickup truck with a recognizable company’s design language. The front fascia has been inspired by the Santa Fe and Palisade models. Tarlac rides on a classic ladder frame, unlike the Santa Cruz pickup that deploys a unibody architecture. For that reason, Tarlac looks more rugged than Santa Cruz. Its ruggedness is especially visible from behind. To the sides, this pickup is almost the same as the Mitsubishi Triton variant.
The rear end comes with taller taillights and the front part hosts LED signature light. Tarlac will also offer a larger cascading grille surrounded by plastic cladding. This clearly suggests a more affordable price as more premium models are offering chrome accents around the grille. The split headlights are looking great, along with the daytime running lights. Side fenders are more muscular and Tarlac wears gorgeous sharp bodylines.
So far, we didn’t hear anything about the interior. However, the 2022 Hyundai Tarlac won’t deliver any surprise for sure. The thing is, Tarlac won’t’ be a luxurious model so expect pretty basic stuff. For a start, Tarlac will surely feature a dashboard that will provide more functionality and durability.
Moreover, we can say that for all of the interior parts as the luxury is not on the cards. We believe the Tarlac will borrow a couple of styling cues from Hyundai’s SUVs and crossovers. However, seating capacity, cab configurations, and trim levels are not available yet.
2022 Hyundai Tarlac Engine
The engine of the future 2022 Hyundai Tarlac is another mystery. Again, we don’t expect a brand-new engine as its development is too expensive. Instead, Tarlac pickup will deploy some of the company’s existing engines.
The most likely candidate is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Known as Theta3, this engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Optionally, Tarlac could offer a 3.5-liter V6 that also powers the arriving Genesis GV80 SUV. However, we are still waiting to see the performance figures.
Price and Release Date
The production of the forthcoming 2022 Hyundai Tarlac will start later in 2020. This pickup should go on sale at some point during 2021, most likely in the last quarter of the year. As for the starting price, Hyundai is still refusing to provide any specific details. However, we expect an affordable pickup so the price around $25,000 seems to be the most likely outcome.
