The forthcoming 2021 Jeep Gladiator is one of the most anticipated models in the pickup truck market. The 2020 Gladiator will be the first of many, but why everyone want the 2021 model so bad? The answer is in a diesel engine that won’t become available in 2020. For that reason, the 2021 Gladiator is basically what most of the customers want.
As you probably know, Gladiator pickup is about to arrive as the 2020 Gladiator. For the very same reason, the next model won’t get such drastic changes. Whatsoever, diesel is perhaps the only significant upgrade.
2021 Jeep Gladiator a Brief Look
The brand-new 2021 Jeep Gladiator is a body-on-frame, Wrangler-based pickup truck. Really, one second is enough to realize a strong resemblance between Gladiator and Wrangler. However, Gladiator is riding on a 137-inch long wheelbase. For now, only crew cab four-door configuration is in the offer. Jeep will deliver up to four different trim levels, and each of them will look truly unique. Gladiator’s styling is impressive, and the exterior is convenient. Removing roof panels and folding windshield is easier than never before in Jeep’s history of off-roading vehicles. Whatsoever, Gladiator is about to become the first open-air pickup truck.
Interestingly, the base trim level comes with the same ground clearance as the rest of the segment. Ride quality is impressive, thanks to a new five-link rear suspension. Gladiator also comes with a standard tailgate that is wider and a five-foot bed. One cab configuration is available, but Gladiator offers three roof configurations. For 2021, there won’t be any changes on the outside. Everything will largely remain as this is an all-new model.
Inside the new 2021 Jeep Gladiator, changes are also implausible. All we can hope for is minor technology updates. On the other hand, interior looks very modern and comfortable. There is a room for five passengers, and cabin space is generous. We still don’t like a smaller 5-inch display. The optional 7-inch display is more than recommended.
Gladiator is also practical on the inside. It comes with lockable storages, folding seats, and much more. Upper trim levels are available with leather upholstery and wi-fi speakers. Roof panels are available and are very easy to take off.
New Diesel Engine
As for the powertrain options, there is only one available engine right now. It is a 3.6-liter V6. You probably know everything about this engine. As a matter of fact, Jeep likes to deploy this engine wherever it is possible. It generates 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator is about to get a diesel engine.
The choice has come down to a 3.0-liter six-cylinder. This powertrain is producing up to 260 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, the 2021 Gladiator will offer 8,000 pounds of towing capacity. The customers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Jeep Gladiator Hercules
Another attractive model is the high-performance Hercules variant. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator will look to explore this segment as well. However, new Hercules version won’t use any of the two mentioned engines. Gladiator Hercules needs to beat Gladiator’s base gasoline engine. However, the ultimate goal is to rival the rest of the competition in the high-performance segment.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible for Jeep to match Ram’s 700 hp and its Rebel TRX model. As for the design, Hercules will surely arrive with more aggressive styling, higher ground clearance, and much more. On top of that, improved mechanics are a must for this performance-oriented beast.
2021 Jeep Gladiator Price and Release Date
The all-new mid-size pickup truck will cost $31,000. That means the 2021 Jeep Gladiator costs the same as its predecessor. Of course, the only upgrade is diesel powertrain. Diesel output is optional, and it will cost you a couple of thousand more. The sale should begin in the third quarter of 2020.
