The all-new 2021 Mazda BT-50 continues its path as a mid-size pickup truck. This model is closely related to the Isuzu D-Max model. The BT-50 will introduce mid-cycle refreshments once again. That includes a couple of visual updates and the interior will get more tech. However, the highlight of the 2021 model could be its improved performance. The next-gen model is not on the cards, yet.
That means the mid-cycle refreshments will be more than welcome. Mazda plans to boost the sales and it will offer its BT-50 pickup globally. In order to do so, Mazda will team up with Isuzu. You probably don’t know, but the previous model has been based on the Ford Ranger mid-size pickup.
2021 Mazda BT-50 Offers Stunning Design
In terms of design, a new 2021 Mazda BT-50 will gain a couple of cosmetic updates. The changes are far from significant but mid-size pickup truck will look better than its predecessor. Mazda delivers a more upright styling and Isuzu had a great impact on the new truck’s appearance. Whatsoever, two brands created a new architecture that will underpin the new BT-50.
The new coil-over suspension is available, so the three-leaf setup is gone. As for the design, the front fascia is slightly different and it comes with a redesigned grille. On top of that, LED headlights are brand-new and the rear part comes with new taillights.
Interior Looks Modern
The interior will gain a couple of modern updates. Thanks to that, the new 2021 Mazda BT-50 will look more modern. Some things are taken from the D-Max model. However, the cabin looks unique and it definitely looks refreshed. The current model was closer to the Ford Ranger, but that will change now. The interior looks slightly different and it wears more upscale materials.
The pickup looks stylish and new high-tech amenities are the most important upgrade. That includes new driver-assistance aids. However, these features will be optional in the base trim level. The 2021 BT-50 will be a more competitive pickup truck and it will arrive in a double cab configuration only.
2021 Mazda BT-50 Engine
The interior and exterior upgrades are important. However, the biggest upgrade for the 2021 Mazda BT-50 will be a new powertrain option. The new engine is not official yet, but it seems that Mazda’s co-operation with Isuzu will surely deliver new output. In Australia and Asia, a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel is available.
This unit can produce 177 horsepower and it can tow over 8,000 pounds. To compare, the current 2.5-liter turbodiesel can tow 7,700 pounds. However, this engine will stick around in some markets. Lastly, the Japanese manufacturer will borrow one engine from its SUV lineup and it will be an optional engine.
Price and Release Date
The approaching 2021 Mazda BT-50 will reach the dealerships in the last quarter of 2020. A new mid-size pickup truck will cost slightly above its predecessor. That means you can get a new BT-50 truck for around $30,000. We are still waiting for Mazda to release the exact launch date and its possible new powertrain option.
As we said, this model will firstly go on sale in Australia and Asia, but Mazda plans to sell mid-size pickup globally.
