The forthcoming 2020 Mercedes X-Class is the new model in the pickup truck segment. This segment is something new for the German carmaker but no one doubts the quality this model surely poses. It made debut last summer in South Africa and the pickup looks really close to the concept. There will be three trim levels, four drivetrains, and two transmission options.

The 2020 Mercedes X-Class will arrive with the standard rear-wheel-drive setup and it will borrow chassis from the Nissan. The 2020 model won’t get any significant upgrades, after all, it is basically a new model on the market. Unfortunately, Mercedes won’t offer a high-performance AMG version.

2020 Mercedes X-Class Offers Premium and Unique Exterior Design

German carmaker delivers only attractive and stylish vehicles and that includes cars and SUVs. Now when the pickup is out there on the markets, Mercedes has it all. The 2020 Mercedes X-Class looks very modern and handsome. As a part of the partnership, Merc will borrow the Nissan’s platform and chassis. Even some styling cues are clearly Nissan.

However, the pickup offers premium and unique exterior design. The twin-bar grille is amazing and the LED headlights are upscale. There will be three trim levels and Power trim offers nothing but the luxury. The base Pure models are equipped with 17-inch wheels while the mid-range Progressive trim comes with the 17-inch alloy wheels.

2020 Mercedes X-Class Cabin Features

From the inside, the all-new 2020 Mercedes X-Class will look very similar to the original concept. However, the pickup truck is relatively new so the upgrades are very minor. The interior offers the latest infotainment system and a big driver information screen.

The steering wheel and the gear shifter are exactly the same as on the concept. Premium cabin delivers amazing stuff such as orange ambient lighting. Newest features are in the offer and that includes the push-button start and a switchblade key. The customers can choose between six different materials and leather upholstery will be optional on the base trim.

2020 Mercedes X-Class Powertrain

The upcoming 2020 Mercedes X-Class will offer four engine options and two transmissions. The base engine is four-cylinder gasoline that returns 165 HP and 176 lb-ft of torque. Two turbodiesel units are available as well. The 2.3-liter generates 190 HP and 330 lb-ft of twists and turbodiesel V6 260 horses and 405 lb-ft of torque.

The remaining four-cylinder diesel engine is producing 163 horsepower and 298 lb-ft of torque. Both 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearboxes are available. A four-wheel-drive setup will be optional and all drivetrains will feature a start/stop system, along with the five driving modes.

New X-Class will not get AMG version

Unfortunately, the 2020 Mercedes X-Class pickup truck will not offer the special AMG version. German carmaker officially denied the speculations about the high-performance X-Class AMG variant. The sportier model will not arrive for two reasons.

The first one is the platform that can’t accommodate V8 engine. Fitting V8 inside the X-Class will demand too much work and resources. The second reason is that the customers didn’t show enough interest in the AMG variant. Moreover, it is yet unclear if the pickup will be sold on the America soil. The upcoming pickup is already expensive and AMG model would cost significantly more. However, Merc did say the AMG could happen in the future.
