Nissan is working on its Frontier pickup that will arrive next fall. The 2021 Nissan Frontier will get some significant upgrades. Futuristic styling will be present but the platform will remain. On top of that, we can expect a new engine and new transmission. However, Frontier will remain an affordable mid-size pickup truck.
Whatsoever, this is the company’s best-selling pickup at the moment. It managed more sales than the Titan model. Now, Frontier will look to rival its competitors in the mid-size segment.
2021 Nissan Frontier Redesign
The upcoming 2021 Nissan Frontier is about to get a more futuristic appearance. That means we can expect some significant changes in styling and design. However, Nissan didn’t say anything about the redesign. The 2021 Frontier will grow in size and the shape will stay intact. Some reports suggested a new Navara’s platform.
However, Frontier won’t deploy this type of architecture. That means the mid-size pickup will continue to ride on the current underpinnings. Leaf springs and rear axle will be in the offer once again. Design-wise, Frontier will look more aggressive. Both the front and rear parts will get some significant updates. To the sides, 16-inch alloy wheels will remain standard. The grille and the headlight units will be all-new. Also, we expect new taillights and new exterior colors.
The interior will also feature an all-new design. The cabin will look more modern than before and design is very subtle. Nissan will deploy the same approach we can find inside the company’s lineup of sedans and SUVs. The layout is about to change and comfort will be much better now. On top of that, the Japanese manufacturer promised a more practical cabin.
The 2021 Nissan Frontier will surely arrive in numerous trim levels and cab configurations. King Cab and Crew Cab will be available once again, no doubt about it. The interior will gain more standard features and some new driver-assistance systems. Leather upholstery and similar premium amenities will be optional once again.
2021 Nissan Frontier Powertrain Specifications and Towing Rate
According to the latest reports, 2021 Nissan Frontier will get a new V6 powertrain. Furthermore, this engine will most likely replace the existing 4.0-liter V6 engine. It is an aging unit with 5-speed automatic gearbox, so it does make sense. New V6 comes with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, it can produce 300 horsepower.
Current Frontier pickup delivers 265 HP. That means the 2021 Frontier will tow more than the current’s 6,500 pounds. Nissan also promised a better fuel economy rating. Frontier is surely ready to compete with upcoming Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. Some reports are suggesting a new diesel engine as well.
Price and Release Date
Despite the upgrades and changes, Frontier will remain an affordable pickup. The 2021 Nissan Frontier will cost around $30,000 or slightly below that.
The average price for the mid-size segment is $32,000. That means the Frontier will be more affordable than its rivals. The most likely competitors are Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, and Toyota Tacoma. Newest Nissan’s pickup will hit the markets in September 2020.
