Manufacturers all around the world are reviving its old models. It became a thing in the last couple of years. The upcoming 2021 Ram Dakota is one of the best examples. The mid-size pickup truck will make a comeback later next year. The FCA wants to dominate the mid-size truck segment and Dakota is just a beginning.
Previous rumors suggested a Dodge Dakota model. However, now it is clear that this pickup will arrive under the Ram’s badge. The pickup will look attractive and aggressive. Some parts are taken from the Wrangler SUV, which is more than interesting. Whatsoever, both Dakota and Wrangler are produced in the same plant in Ohio.
2021 Ram Dakota Exterior
What will new 2021 Ram Dakota look like? According to numerous reports, this pickup truck will be based on the Jeep Wrangler. Dimensions are still a mystery. Previous Dakota’s language is a possibility. However, we predict an all-new design with plenty of modern styling cues. Dakota will ride on the same platform as the Wrangler SUV. That means a body-on-frame architecture is certain.
Ram abandoned its iconic crosshair grille so we expect a fresh front fascia look. The front fascia should look closer to the Ram 1500 model. That means a huge RAM lettering will sit up front. Wrangler’s unique headlights are the most probable outcome as well. On top of that, 20-inch wheels are optional, while 18-inch rims will be standard.
If the exterior was a small mystery, the interior is completely unknown at the moment. The 2021 Ram Dakota will surely offer upscale and modern interior design. Some cues will be surely borrowed from the Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500. We don’t expect from the arriving mid-size pickup truck to look unique.
However, it doesn’t matter as long as the interior is modern and comfortable. Stylish shapes and new dashboard are a must. There will be numerous trim levels so upper trims will surely deliver a real luxury. That includes leather upholstery and other optional amenities. FCA will release more details about the interior closer to the release date.
2021 Ram Dakota Engine Specs and Transmission
There is no doubt about at least one engine option. The 2021 Ram Dakota will deploy a 3.6-liter V6 engine. This unit powers models such as Wrangler and Gladiator. It can produce 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. However, this model will be reserved for the base model.
Upper trims could get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that cranks out 300 hp. Both engines will use an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Four-wheel-drive will be optional and we can already hear some stories about the turbodiesel powertrain.
A 3.0-liter six-cylinder is the most likely candidate. This engine generates 260 horses and 440 lb-ft of torque. Of course, rumors are saying that the hybrid drivetrain will also arrive. However, that will not happen, at least not in the next couple of years.
Price and Release Date
The mid-size pickup truck will cost between $25,000 and $30,000. The forthcoming 2021 Ram Dakota will compete with established rivals such as Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. FCA is yet to release full details about this new model. New Dakota will hit the dealerships later in 2020.
