The upcoming 2020 Renault Alaskan will hit the dealerships with numerous changes. For the start, this pickup offers a five-link rear suspension, new engine and interior come with more tech now. Interestingly, Alaskan is a manufacturer in Mexico, Argentina, and Spain.

The new model will get plenty of improvements just like its sibling Nissan Navara. Speaking of Navara, Alaskan will borrows its underpinnings. On top of that, the new Mercedes X-Class pickup is closely related to Alaskan. New Alaskan will also gain more weight but towing capacity will remain unchanged.

Renault’s new pickup truck will be closely related to Nissan Navara and Mercedes X-Class pickup trucks. Those three models will share the same platform. Thanks to Renault-Nissan alliance, Navara and the 2020 Renault Alaskan will look very similar. That includes numerous styling cues and exterior features. The front grille now comes with a bolder design and new horizontal inserts.

In the middle of the grille, you can’t miss the company’s badge. On top of that, front fascia now wears more chrome accents. Headlights are slightly modified for the 2020 model. Rear-end looks very interesting and sporty. To the sides, most of the pickup will remain. However, side fenders are looking more muscular and side steps are now offered as standard. 17-inch wheels are standard now as well while you can choose optional 18-inches.

Some New Features are Borrowed from the Nissan Navara

The interior of the 2020 Renault Alaskan won’t get radical changes. However, the French manufacturer did make sure to improve the overall quality inside. Some new features are borrowed from the Nissan Navara. However, this pickup doesn’t lack uniqueness. Interior is practical and layout of the buttons and controls is very simple. The infotainment system will get an update and HVAC controls are looking smaller now.

The dashboard looks very attractive but it won’t suffer any sort of upgrades. Alaskan still offers two analog gauges that need to be updated. The cabin is rich in terms of technology. Large displays, navigation, Bluetooth and 12-volt power outlets are all standard. Renault will also deliver a 360-degree camera, hill descends control, hill start assist and trailer sway assist. For the end, the 2020 Alaskan will finally get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Renault will offer numerous engine choices. A 2.3-liter dCi engine will get minimal improvements. This engine generates 190 horses in its highest possible output. Another four-cylinder drivetrain is turbodiesel. This engine also offers two different outputs. The first output produces 158 HP and the second output is good for 187 horsepower.

Diesel unit can tow up to 313 lb-ft of torque. Renault says the engines are cleaner now and the ride will be significantly improved. Despite the latest changes, the highlight of the new model is its five-link rear suspension. Disc brakes are all new and French carmaker now offers an Automatic Emergency Braking. As for the transmission, you can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic.

Price and Release Date

Sales of the upcoming 2020 Renault Alaskan will kick off this fall. A new pickup truck will firstly arrive in Europe. The price shouldn’t be changed significantly. New Alaskan will probably cost around $35,000. However, we are still waiting for full pricing details. Until it arrives, we hope for Renault to give us a surprise or two.
