The forthcoming 2021 Renault Alaskan is one interesting model for various reason. For the start, this pickup is using a five-link rear suspension and it shares a lot of cues with the Nissan Navara. Two models are sharing the same underpinnings, engine and much more.
Alaskan is currently in the production in Spain, Mexico, and Argentina. Interestingly, Alaskan is closely related to the new Mercedes X-Class pickup truck. For 2021, we can expect new powertrain option, better interior, and better-towing capacity.
2021 Alaskan Exterior Facelift
Company’s newest pickup truck will be very similar to the Nissan Navara and Mercedes X-Class models. The 2021 Renault Alaskan will ride on the same platform that underpins Navara pickup. Thanks to the Renault-Nissan alliance, this comes as no surprise at all. Navara is a good-looking model so Alaskan can only benefit from it.
Renault’s arriving model will get similar styling and almost the same exterior features. The front grille is new and bumpers are bolder. Renault’s badge in the middle of the grille is a recognizable styling cue. The front fascia will get more chrome accents and rear fascia looks odd but still pleasant. The side profile will mostly remain and 17-inch wheels are still standard.
From the inside, new Alaskan won’t get such significant changes. Renault is rather opting for some sort of the mid-cycle refreshments. That includes the updates of the infotainment systems, displays and a couple of new features. The 2021 Renault Alaskan will once again borrow a lot from Navara pickup. Still, Alaskan manages to keep its uniqueness. The cabin is very practical and spacious. Design-wise, the interior won’t change, expect the smaller HVAC controls. The dash is intact but it still looks modern and attractive.
Two analog gauges are still present and are looking aging, according to customers. However, the interior of the Renault Alaskan is packed with technology. Displays are big enough, even the standard units. 12-volt power outlets, navigation, Bluetooth and a 360-degree camera are all standard. On top of that, French manufacturer offers a standard hill start assist, hill descends control and trailer sway assist. The upcoming pickup truck will also get Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and more safety aids.
Renault Promises Better Performances
The upcoming 2021 Renault Alaskan will continue to use its 2.3-liter dCi engine. This unit is available in two different outputs. On top of that, both outputs will gain minor improvements. The highest output produces up to 190 horsepower. Optionally, you can get a four-cylinder turbocharged engine that also offers two outputs. However, this engine can generate 158 hp or 187 hp. A diesel engine is also available and will deliver great torque figures, almost 315 lb-ft.
According to Renault, all units are cleaner now and better ride quality is guaranteed. A five-link rear suspension is still available and new disc brakes are installed. When it comes to gearbox choices, Alaskan offers 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmission.
2021 Renault Alaskan Price and Release Date
The price of the all-new 2021 Renault Alaskan will now start at $34,500. A new pickup truck will offer a couple of trim levels and upper trims will cost over $42,000. This model will go on sale next fall and will be sold globally.
