According to the newest reports, the next-generation 2021 Toyota Tundra is already in the works. The full-size pickup truck is one of the oldest and one of the most reliable models in the segment. However, while a constant seller, Tundra still needs major improvements in order to compete with other rivals such as Ford F-150 or Ram 1500.
The new model already brought us some exciting refreshments. However, the 2021 Toyota Tundra will get significant upgrades. Exterior and interior will undergo major changes for sure. Moreover, Tundra could gain a smaller turbocharged engine and the all-new transmission. Even the hybrid model is speculation and more importantly, a reality.
2021 Toyota Tundra Exterior Updates
The all-new 2021 Toyota Tundra will get plenty of updates. A full-size pickup is already offering great exterior design and numerous optional packages. However, that is still far from enough to compete with the more established rivals from Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram. Besides that, Tundra is still one of the world’s best-selling models.
For the start, Tundra will remain a body-on-frame pickup. After the latest spy shots, we can see the Japanese carmaker is working on the latest changes and innovations. The platform will remain, but this pickup will get a new coil-spring suspension that will replace the current leaf springs. Styling will change as well, but don’t expect radical changes. It looks like the new grille is available which should provide better cooling, probably for the new engine.
Spy shots didn’t show us any interior details. At least we know the next-gen 2021 Toyota Tundra will get numerous refreshments. That includes the interior as well. We don’t expect any changes in terms of layout or seating positions. However, a new display will be in the offer surely. Also, Toyota will introduce more storage options such as bins and hooks on the seats.
Technology will improve a lot. Toyota could introduce new towing apps similar to the apps that Chevrolet currently offers. All of the systems will get an update. Comfort and safety will be on a whole new level too.
2021 Toyota Tundra Powertrain
The current Tundra truck is offering two drivetrain options. A standard 4.6-liter that produces 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque, and optional 5.7-liter V8. Powerful V8 cranks out 381 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Now, the new-generation 2021 Toyota Tundra could get a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 unit. The same engine can be found under the hood of the current Lexus LS500 model. Tundra will surely get a new transmission as well. From now on, an 8-speed automatic gearbox will be standard.
Optionally, the customers can choose a 10-speed automatic transmission. The rumors about the new powertrain are perfectly reasonable. New grille suggests big improvements under the hood. However, while we don’t expect better performances, we expect better fuel economy rating.
2021 Toyota Tundra Release Date and Price
There is no official release date. For an instance, the current Tundra model made a debut at the Chicago Auto Show and we could expect the same outcome for the 2021 Toyota Tundra. The next-generation pickup truck will start at $33,000 and upper trims will cost over $50,000. This model will arrive in the last quarter of 2020 or the first quarter of 2021.
