The approaching 2022 Toyota Tacoma is a subject of a lot of rumors in the last couple of days. Many speculations are suggesting a new-generation Tacoma. That means we could expect some significant changes from Toyota, once the mid-size pickup truck arrives. Of course, most of the rumors are about the hybrid powertrain. On top of that, a redesign is another one.
Even the interior overhaul is a possibility. Basically, the fans are expecting a complete overhaul in 2022. Surely, the Tacoma model gets better and better and it is one of the most established models in the pickup segment. However, how these rumors are likely to happen and will we see a new-gen model in 2022?
2022 Toyota Tacoma Might Get a Mid-Cycle Refreshment
This is an interesting topic for various reasons. The 2022 Toyota Tacoma could get a complete redesign in the near future. Will it happen? Not so likely. New-gen models are usually the ones that are introducing significant upgrades. However, we won’t see next-generation Tacoma for numerous reasons. For a start, Tacoma’s generation usually lasts between nine and ten years. The current generation is present since 2016. For that reason, we don’t believe in these stories.
On the other hand, Tacoma pickup will surely get some sort of upgrades. The most likely outcome is a mid-cycle refreshment. That means Toyota will provide numerous minor changes. The exterior will go through a small facelift, just enough to keep Tacoma competitive as it is now. In 2021, Tacoma pickup will get a new F1 platform and after that, it is hard to expect significant upgrades.
High-Quality Materials Inside
The interior is more likely to get more significant upgrades. The forthcoming 2022 Toyota Tacoma should introduce more high-quality materials and generally, a higher level of comfort. On top of that, the Japanese manufacturer will deliver more tech. That includes a new optional display while the 8-inch touchscreen remains standard.
Moreover, Toyota will focus on Tacoma’s upper trim levels and TRD Pro version that will provide more luxury than before. We don’t know how the interior will look, but we don’t expect interior overhaul or anything similar. Lastly, new interior color schemes are a possibility for the 2022 model.
The introduction of hybrid powertrain should happen in 2021. This model will ride on a new F1 architecture that can accommodate hybrid technology. But what about 2022 Toyota Tacoma? Again, you can read a lot of rumors on the internet nowadays. Some reports are suggesting an optional diesel-hybrid combination as a possibility. That will not happen for sure. We hate to deny things, but diesel-hybrid powertrain will not happen, never.
Knowing that the only upgrade in 2022 could be a slightly improved mileage, or Toyota could provide more ponies. Basically, nothing drastic will change in terms of performances. Besides hybrid powertrain, Tacoma will ride on conventional 2.7-liter and optional 3.5-liter V6 engines. Some markets are offering a 2.8-liter diesel as an option.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Expectations
To conclude, the new 2022 Toyota Tacoma will get mid-cycle refreshments. That means we expect minor facelift, slightly more tech on the inside and possible improvements in terms of efficiency. With all these updates, 2022 Tacoma shouldn’t cost more than its predecessor.
Some rumors are suggesting a price of $31,000 for the 2021 model, and 2022 Tacoma will continue in the same manner. As for the release date, the mid-size pickup will surely go on sale at some point in 2021.
