The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is about to introduce a lot of changes. For a start, we saw a couple of renderings and spy shots. We know that the new model will wear a more aggressive styling, mostly upfront. It is an evolution of Toyota’s design language and new models will look closer to TRD Pro trim level.
Tundra is a good-selling truck with so much to offer. This pickup truck rivals established models such as Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, Chevy Silverado, and Ram 1500. Now, the redesign is about to happen and the new Tundra will be even more competitive. Indeed, Tundra is still behind its competitors so new updates will surely make Tundra better.
2022 Tundra What is New?
First of all, the next 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will ride on the brand’s newest architecture. It is Toyota’s Architecture-F or TNGA-F. Thanks to that, Tundra will arrive as a body-on-frame truck with greater use of high-strength steel. Moreover, the manufacturer will provide more lightweight materials. Tundra will also offer coil springs, just like the Ram 1500 pickup.
This means the leaf springs are gone. The ride quality will be better now and we expect better towing and payload capacity. We don’t know if Tundra will change in terms of size, because of the new platform. However, we expect more details in the coming weeks.
Exterior and Interior Changes
As we said, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will arrive with a more aggressive look. The front fascia will suffer the biggest changes, as we expected. Toyota is trying to improve its pickup truck lineup by giving it a look that is closer to the TRD Pro trim level. This is a good thing, as TRD Pro trim levels are looking exceptional. The front fascia will incorporate a larger grille and the hood will be taller. The complete exterior is flashier than before and some parts are sportier as well.
On the inside, the Tundra truck will provide the newest Entune infotainment system. A 12.0-inch touchscreen is available, along with a large heads-up display. Furthermore, Toyota’s Safety Sense suite is available and it will deliver more features than ever before. That includes aids such as advanced radar cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic braking, and automatic lane centering. We also expect small design changes inside the cabin, but nothing significant.
Tundra Hybrid Specs
As you probably know, Tundra’s V8 engine is gone. New model will arrive with a potent V6 engine with 278 horsepower. If you want more power, higher-end trim levels are offering a 3.4-liter engine with 416 horses. However, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid is coming and that’s about it. It is a game-changer for many models and the Tundra truck is no different.
New model will utilize a 3.5-liter engine that also powers the Lexus LS 500 model. Of course, electric motor and battery pack are creating a potent hybrid setup that will be rated at around 450 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. This is a significant improvement and Tundra Hybrid will also provide over 30 mpg combined. With that in mind, Tundra Hybrid will now easily rival models such as Ford F-150 Hybrid.
2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Price, Release Date
In terms of price, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will start at around $40,000 or slightly above that. The base Tundra costs $35,000 and a new model will probably cost more than the outgoing variant. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2021.
