Tundra is an amazing full-size pickup truck. However, the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro variant is even more impressive. It is a high-performance off-road model that is going places. Toyota is working on the next-gen Tundra, that will rival the Ford F-150 model. This truck was supposed to arrive later this year. However, the Japanese manufacturer will probably have to reschedule it for the first quarter of 2022.
The next-gen Tundra will introduce a lot of updates and TRD Pro trim level will follow the same path. That includes numerous cosmetic upgrades, interior changes, and even some mechanical changes as well. Anyway, here is everything you need to know about the new Tundra and its TRD Pro variant.
2022 Tundra TRD Pro Redesign
It is hard to predict the new design of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. However, we know how the regular Tundra will look like. This could give us an idea of how the TRD Pro trim will look in the future. For a start, regular Tundra will wear a styling that is a mix of new Highlander and RAV4 models. The front fascia comes with c-shaped daytime running lights and a trapezoidal grille that wears more chrome accents.
The side profile looks muscular and definitely closer to the RAV4 crossover. The rear section offers a power tailgate, vertical LED taillights, and integrated bumper steps. Tundra TRD Pro will take all of these cues but Toyota will surely deliver more aggressive styling with larger wheels and more ground clearance.
New model will deploy the F1 platform that also underpins Sequoia SUV and Tacoma pickup. Thanks to that, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will surely offer a roomier cabin and better ride quality. The interior will deploy more high-quality materials and we expect to see more technology as well. New Highlander model comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and Tundra TRD Pro will use the same display for sure.
New infotainment supports Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G Wi-Fi connectivity. Besides that, Toyota offers an upgraded JBL sound system. Lastly, Safety Sense 2.0 is available and it adds a lot of driver assistance. For example, Tundra will arrive with the lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, cruise control, and much more.
Powerful V8 Engine
According to the newest reports, the new Tundra truck will arrive with a hybrid powertrain option. However, we don’t know yet if the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will get the same hybrid system. It is Lexus’ 3.5-liter V6 engine that works in a combination with an electric motor and battery pack. The output will be rated at 450 horsepower, which is a lot of power.
Right now, TRD Pro trim is using a well-known 5.7-liter V8 gasoline engine. This powertrain is capable of producing 380 hp and 430 lb-ft of twisting power. The F1 platform is based on the rear-wheel-drive setup and Tundra will offer both six-speed manual and ten-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Toyota Tundra Release Date, Price
The upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will cost around $53,000 or slightly above that. This impressive truck will compete with Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado 1500, and Ram 1500. You can also add GMC Sierra in the race as well, or even Nissan Titan. The competition is strong and it will be interesting to see what these manufacturers prepared. The sales will begin by end of 2021.
