When it arrives, the 2021 VW Amarok will be the new-generation model. Thanks to that, Volkswagen will introduce numerous drastic changes. For a start, a new platform is available. The same architecture underpins new Ford Ranger. On top of that, exterior will get a complete redesign. Even the interior will host various upgrades, and some of the enhancements are drastic.
However, a new platform doesn’t come with all-electric powerplant. That means the 2021 Amarok will continue to roll on its reliable gasoline and diesel engines. Some reports are suggesting a new engine, but that will depend on the market.
2021 VW Amarok Redesign
The all-new 2021 VW Amarok will suffer a redesign. And while we are waiting for official details, some things are very certain. For a start, Amarok will offer new exterior features and fresh colors. Furthermore, new grille is in the line.
Brand-new headlights are available as well, and bumpers are enlarged. Generally, front fascia looks more modern and sharper. Unfortunately, rear part is slightly revised, and the side profile is intact.
Volkswagen and Ford are building new technology. The upcoming 2021 VW Amarok will get a new platform. On top of that, this architecture is shared with the new Ford Ranger. Furthermore, two models will share numerous features and systems.
The goal is to represent something unique, as Isuzu and Holden did with the Colorado and D-Max models. Moreover, Mazda’s BT-50 pickup is mechanically similar to the Ranger model. New underpinnings can accommodate bigger powerplants, so the new engine is a possibility for Amarok.
The forthcoming 2021 VW Amarok could borrow Ford’s EcoBoost engine. Of course, it sounds unreal, but we’ll pay special attention to this rumor. Whatsoever, the stories about a 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine is present. Markets in Asia could get Amarok with a new 3.0-liter diesel engine.
For now, current Amarok’s 3.0-liter V6 remains. This turbodiesel unit is producing 220 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a standard RWD setup. Amarok pickup can reach from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds.
Ford and Volkswagen are planning the future with all-electric vehicles. The 2021 VW Amarok is just one of the vehicles that are part of this plan. However, the 2021 model won’t get any type of electrification. That includes the hybrid variant that should become available before 2023. Still, the 2021 Amarok will continue with its conventional gasoline and diesel engines. Besides that, Ford and VW will look to electrify most of the crossovers and SUVs lineup.
